Instead of focusing on whats in front of me, I realize I`ve been looking trough the rearwiew mirror for a long time. It`s confusing, fascinating and comfortable, but in the long run, makes it almost impossible to navigate.

I used to be good at noticing and appreciate the small things that makes life worth living. I really miss those days. It`s time to start all over.

I took this photograph months ago - didn`t realize how much I like it untill now.

Here`s Nils Petter Molvær. He`s a Norwegian jazz trumpeter.

He held a workshop before tonights concert, and when I asked him if I could take a photo, he was like "sure, no problem!" I wanted to photograph him against a huge lit wall, but I was so nervous that I couldn`t manage to get my settings straight on the camera. All the photos were underexposed. So I asked him to face the wall instead, and voila! I really like this picture.

Even though I forget to bring my camera every once in a while, I still see these situations all the time. I`ve tried to use the Iphone`s camera as a "street-shooter", but I tend to forget that I`m out photographing when I carry the phone. Instead I wait for it to call, or start to listen to a song or two. Guess I`ll have to put the phone in my pocket, and carry my camera like any other tourist.

This guy was lucky to be photographed with a real camera. I believe he`s an art critique.

Positive:
The last few weeks has been pretty crazy. We`ve had a week in the sun - spent seven days next to a pool in Gran Canaria. Five hours before we left norway, I delivered photographs for an exhibition, (my first!!!!) and five hours after we got home, I photographed "The Cumshots" The next night, I photographed another gig, you can see the photos here. They`re pretty good hidden, but if you press "Kultur" (culture), and then "Bildeserier", you`ll find series tagged "Cumshots", "Jokke & Backstreet Girls", "Terje Vigen", and one called "Vibeke Saugestad". There`s more there, but I think I`ve bragged about them before...

Negative:
I`ve shot a few frames that isn`t music related too - this photo is one of them. When I look at it, I instantly start to think about how much I hate the dark, cold season we`re about to enter. I know it`s unhealthy to start complaining before the shit hits the fan, but I am so not looking forward to this winter. I quit smoking (again) a week ago, that doesn`t help much either.

If I still smoked, the ciggarette I`d smoke right now would taste terriffic!

Busy weeks, but I`m having fun! I`ve done a couple of jobs for Moss Avis as a freelance photographer at concerts lately. It makes me aware of what I`m good at, and what I need to improve. It`s not as easy as I hoped it would be, but it`s a lot of fun. Each time I enter a show, I tell myself to do a better job than I did the last time. I do not always succeed, but I do my best because I know how lucky I am.
This photo is one of my favourites from the Kari Bremnes concert a few weeks ago.

October 1st. is probably going to be great. I`ll do something I`ve never done before. I`ve got a shitload to prepare - hope I manage to get everything ready in time.

Went out for a quick ride with my bike. Brought an old 5mp. camera. This is what I got.
I`m pretty happy with it!

Been building a new bathroom the last few weeks - we`re finally almost there, so it will be more time for photography soon.

Here`s Kim Larsen. I photographed him last wednesday at Røed Gård. This photo and thirteen other photographs were published in Moss Avis`net-edition. I managed to break my trusty old Nikon D70s - the shutter stopped working. Luckily, (or is it really luck?) I brought the D200 as my main camera. The D70s worked as a backup. Now my backup`s gone. I might be in trouble...

I got two pages in Moss Avis, photos and text. And 14 photos in their online edition. It was a great concert- more than 2000 people showed up. I photographed front row for the first two songs, then i got "thrown" out of the pit, and shot the rest from inside the crowd. That`s what I`m used to do, and that`s what worked best for me. About 50% of the photos were blurred because I`m always jumping when I like the music I hear. I have to figure something out...

Developed two rolls of Ilford Delta 3200 today, and picked up some prints too.

I saw "Yes man", starring Jim Carrey a few weeks ago.

Made me think.

Jeanette gave me a ticket to a consert with Big Bang for my birthday in April. "Do you want to go ?", she said. I said YES!

At the show, a man asked me if he could get some photos. He forgot his camera. I said YES!

He turned out to be the the one who organized the entire show, and this is what happened:

The photos turned out great. They got in touch with the local newspaper, and to make a short story even shorter, they asked if I wanted to work as a freelance photographer -you know my answer!

I`m starting in two days. Shooting vikings.

It`s been a while! Needed to take a break from posting - didn`t feel I had much to show, even though I`ve shot hundreds of snaps, and developed a few rolls of film the last few months. Perhaps I`ll post some of it later.

What got me started today was a gift from two good friends. They gave me two cameras, a Canon EOS 3, and a Canon EOS 1n DCS 520. I`ve run two rolls of Ilford Delta 3200 - (really grainy stuff) through the EOS 3, and I plan to develop the films this weekend. The other camera had an internal harddrive that was impossible to connect to my computer, so I ordered a PCMIA to CF adapter and a new battery.

The DCS 520 was one of the first Pro dSLR`s, and probably the nail in the coffin for film-photojournalism. It`s a two megapixel camera, (a little less than in a regular cellphone cam...) and I was surprised when I saw the files - they`re crisp and clear, and I believe it`s possible to print these files up to almost 20x30 cm`s. (A4)

The camera reacts just as quickly as my Nikon D200.

Man - everybody should crash and burn their computers once in a while!!!!!

Without my computer for over two months, I managed to shoot six rolls of film, and even develop them! I managed to fill three CF cards with 6gb`s of excelent photographs, whatch three seasons of "The Sopranos", whatch William Eggleston`s "In the real world", (a film I`d strongly recomend to other fellow photographers), play the guitar, get a major haircut, tear out the kitchen, and almost finnish rebuilding it, celebrate christmas, get a giant hangover after drinking four beers,etc. etc.
I finally got a brand new laptop yesterday after hours of arguing about the warranty, and now I look forward to install all the stuff I need to get back in business. I`m really happy that I have a backup disk with all my photographs - nothing`s lost. My advice to you: backup!

Been shooting a lot of film lately. I`m a little behind when it comes to developing and scanning, but because it is so much fun to photograph, I`ll try not to mess up my mind because of the pile of exposed film in my drawer. I used my digital camera yesterday. With a wide-angle lens. Photographed Oslos citizens, and realized that I`m not afraid of pointing my camera at strangers anymore! I used a 10-20mm zoom, and that`s pretty wide! Todays photo is not a good example, the lady is walking away from me, but it was a rewarding feeling to realize that I`ve climbed a huge wall this year, and not broken any bones.

A brand new experiment!!!!

Santa Claus gave me 300 rolls of expired film. Kodak Gold 200 is not my fav film, but anything with "film" and "free" in it is interesting, so here`s what happened: My cat slept on the sofa. I photographed the cat. Left the film in Rodinal 1+24 for one hour without touching the box. (Except for one minute agitation.) Rinsed the film for 30 minutes, fixed it 3-5 minutes, rinsed again, hung the film to dry. Let out the cat.
The negative looks very "tight", with a brown cast, but it was possible to scan. Looks like I`ve found something to work on.

It`s been a while, summer`s just too short to manage everything. I decided to take a break from all the surfing, all the blogs, all the photoshopfiddling, and just enjoy the fact that we have the hottest summer in years! My cameras has been resting most of the time, my hammer and saw (and my back), has been used a lot during the past few weeks. Our house and garden is getting a facelift, a brand new deck, and a new roof. Things that needed to be done, but were almost impossible to do without taking some days off from work.
Last week, the weather changed, so I developed two rolls of Kodak Porta 400 bw in Rodinal 1+24. This is a black & white developer, the film is C-41, but it worked amazingly good. I`ve got loads of expired Kodak Gold that I want to test in the same soup too, but I guess it`ll take a while before that happens. Maybe in October when we get back from our trip to Crete.
(I just realized we have to leave the country to relax. Scary!)

Here`s the print that got published in Dagbladet last saturday. They didn`t exactly beg me to work for them, but the lady I talked to said she liked the photograph, and that she was impressed by the fact that it was taken with a toy camera. I don`t know how many papers they sold that day, but the two biggest newspapers in Norway are known for creative counting, so my guess is close to one million readers. Not bad at all!

Jeanette got a call today from Dagbladets Magasinet. It`s one of Norways biggest newspapers, and their saturday issue contains "Magasinet". Very photo-orientated! They wanted to talk to me, she gave them my number, but my cellphone`s been acting strangely lately, so I never recieved the call. I really hope they didn`t call to ask if I want a cheap subscription or something. I want them to print my photographs, front cover, multiple pages, offer me a job, perhaps beg me to work for them. Not much to ask for, is it ?
I spent the whole day shooting in the streets of Oslo today. Time do develop a bunchload of film again.

Todays photo was made using the digital Minox Leica M3. It`s the first digital camera I`ve ever had that keeps surprising me... Usually I check the screen and delete once on a while when I`m outside shooting, but this camera has the smallest screen, and the image is almost impossible to see unless I`m in a shaded aeria, so I tend to have a bunch of photos after even the shortest trip. The photos look rather strange straight out of the camera, with weird colors, flare and fuzziness, but after a small visit through photoshop (levels, brightness/contrast) the cool shots pop out.

I happened to be at the right place at the right time the other day, and spent all my money on a new camera. Not because I needed it, but because I wanted it. That`s a good feeling! I couldn`t afford a lens, but I ordered an adaptor that will let me use an old $10 lens that I got a few years ago. Hopefully the adaptor will show up in a few days.
The camera looks like it`s been used a lot, and hopefully it will continue to get used. A lot of these are being displayed in shelfs, they`re decorative, and oozes of quality - I`ll bring mine everywhere, and USE it. I promise!!!

Well, the negatives didn`t scan easily at all. I use a flatbed scanner for the medium format films, and has no options at all. This turned out pretty cool, though! If I don`t figure out how to scan the rest of the negatives, I guess I have to bring them to the local photstore. No problem.

I`ve developed a few films again. I really wanted to shoot more film, but I hate to have unfinished stuff everywhere. Four rolls developed, three to go. Then it`s time to go out again.
I went out to try to catch some street scenes in January, and I usually bring my D-70s and one film camera. Usually a toycamera or the Canonet QL 1.7 GIII. This time I only brought the Hasselblad with an 80mm lens. And loads of film.
(I`ve posted some of the shots previously, Smoke, and Smoke II. (Great titles, eh ?))
I wanted to force myself to not just shoot, and edit later, a bad habit made possible by Dr. Digital... Instead I wanted to slow down, compose, and expose, and not worry about being noticed. Because it is impossible to not be seen with a big camera that shouts VRRRRCLACKSHHH every time I press the shutter. A DSLR makes noise too, but it`s a lot more descreet, and a more common sight to people.
With film, it`s like one good frame on each roll, and I`m happy!
Today, I spotted atleast five frames out of 24! I hope they scan easily!!!!

The holidays are over, and reality hit me last night, just a few hours before I had to go to work again. I needed some fresh air, took a long walk by the sea, and tried to convince myself that life`s not over. There is hope - there`s a light at the end of the tunnel!

The salty air and mother natures fresh breath did the trick: It suddenly hit me - I got no disease, no depression, no nothing! I just enjoy staying up late, sleeping for hours, and do nothing.

The Minox Leica M3 is truly strange! I would never tolerate all the fuzziness and weird behavior from any other camera. The colors are waaay off, straight lines often get curly, highlights gets blown away, and focusing... i don`t think so.

I`m not very interested in grafitti; this is probably not even considered as grafitti. I`m sure there is a name for this too. Often, peoples work has to be defined as something, and there are no room for error, there are rules - like if there was an universal law we had to follow.
To some, this is a photograph. Other people might say that since there is no negative - this is just pixels. Some might define this as ramblings on a wall, "ugly too, this wall used to be white and shiny!"
I hope the person who did this is happy with the result. To me, this is art - and I`m no expert. I`m just impressed. You can see more here.

Jeanette came back from a trip to Austria two days ago. She brought me a present, it was supposed to be for my birthday - and still is - but we couldn`t wait, so I opened the box at the parkinglot outside the airport. I thought it was a lighter shaped as a camera, but it was a real digital camera: A Minox Leica M3.
The camera is ubercool, it`s a replica scaled down to 1:3 of a Leica M3. It has a 5 mega pixel sensor, and is pretty easy to use. I`m not sure if it can be considered as a toy-camera - it is definetely not a camera I would recomend as an all-round camera, or the only camera, mostly because it doesn`t have a flash, but also because there are so many cool cameras in that price-range that will make it easier to get good exposures. But it sure is a cool camera for someone like me who like to get surprised, and try to avoid smoothness!
A great deal of the photos suffer from camera shake, and the highlights seems to burn out easily - it looks like it doesn`t handle contrasts very well - but I have to use it a lot more before i know exactly what is going on. It acts like a toy-camera, the photos get blurry, the colors are a little odd - and to me that is a bonus. I guess it will be my ever-ready streetshooter. It feels a little silly to say it, but to me, this is a digital Holga !
Today`s post is heavily manipulated to get the cross processed look, but I`ll post more photos in a few days that are more "clean".

Been photographing a lot lately, using both film and digital cameras. The polaroid film I bought a few weeks ago are still in the fridge. I`ve only used two 10-packs. One in the Polaroid Se-600, and one in an old Polaroid 320. The 320 has an integral lightmeter, and is actually a cool snap-shot camera that works pretty good indoors without a flash. My film is 100 ASA, but I`ll get some 3000 ASA too.

When I look through the polaroids, it`s pretty easy to see that they are snapshots - nothing special, a little uninspiring - I can tell by looking at them that I was restless when I pressed the shutter, but hey - can`t be on top of the wave all the time, right ?

Last friday, I went out in seriously bad weather, rain and strong winds that finaly ended up as a snowstorm. People in Oslo can cope with rain, but everything changes as soon as it starts to snow. Traffic jams, and people seem to dissappear. But even though I got cold and wet, I felt relaxed. About time.

I`m scanning and developing film whenever I have the time, and luckily I find photos I`m happy with. Didn`t realize that I had photographed that much the last 4 - 5 months. With digital cameras it`s easy to shoot houndreds of frames in a few hours, with film - I just slow down.

Got ten packs of polaroid film in the mail the other day, so expect to see some SE 600 stuff soon.

I was told that they didn`t do it anymore - only regular 135 film.

I planned to write about x-mas and expectations- about kids and how we as adults easily can make it worth celebrating. I feel holidays are like these houses we build out of a deck of cards. You can feel the tension - no one want to mess up, but often someone do.
I guess it`s up to us - how we act, and how we give other people room for making mistakes without cutting heads off. I`m looking forward to it.

This was taken late in the afternoon. It was dark and misty, we were leaving the ghosthouse we`ve photographed the last few weekends, and there on a field not far from where we`d parked our cars, we saw these trees. Focusing and framing was hell, but this is my fav out of 8-10 frames.

Tired of Arild ?

Me too. Been busy redecorating our hall. Took about three weeks - new ceiling, new panel on the walls, a new floor and a new front door. And the hall is huge, about 1,5x2 meters.

No wonder I`ve been tired.

Looked thrugh some old posts, and realized I`ve been complainig a lot about being tired, so I`ve started eating vitamines and also started to work out on a gym.

I feel the difference already, and my family notice it too, and that`s good, because I get very grumpy when I`m uncomfortable.

Went out with a friend last saturday and photographed late at night. It was very foggy, and we photographed this house and the sorroundings. We didn`t talk very much, but we enjoyed being together. We`ll meet next saturday. I want to practice on portraiture, she`s a press-photographer, and I look forward to it.

Jeanette and I are photographing a girl tomorrow. The studio is full of furniture and bits and pieces from the hall. Got to clean it up. Tomorrow, we`re back in business!

Here`s the first frame from the first roll that went through the new Holga. The camera is very similar to the medium format Holga when it comes to build quality, optics, and ease of use. All plastic, a pice of crap - and I love it already.
It took a while to get used to the shutter. It`s located on top of the camera instead of on the right hand side of the lens.
Framing is an issue when it comes to close focusing. I got fooled a few times - the subject I focused on didn`t show up dead center on the negative, but up and to the right. I should have known that. Forgot that the lens and the viewfinder "see" differently...
The film is 135mm, and that means you get a normal negative instead of Holga 120`s square.
Even though it looks (and are) cheap, I didn`t notice any lightleaks.
Unfortunately, I used Ilford Delta 400 film in it. The film is great, but it doesn`t scan well on my scanner. I`ve noticed it before. It might be because of over-developing the film. It looks pretty contrasty and "hard".
The camera might be a new favourite. I`ll just modify it a little...

Earlier this summer, Jeanette came home from work and said I`d better get my camera and go to a field near our house. A car was on fire - I might grab a shot before the firefighters left.
Two kids had been having fun, driving in circles, but the exhaust system got a little too hot, and suddenly they were in big trouble.
They stood there, whatching while the fire fighters worked.
I noticed a photojournalist from a local newspaper came too. He shot a few frames. Then he left.
As he drove away we heard a roaring sound, and practically out of the blue came six helicopters.
I think they added nicely to the photograph.
The two boys couldn`t care less.

I`ve developed lots of film lately. Scanned some of it too, but has to work on them in photoshop before they`re ready to be published. This photo is one of the few I`m happy with on a roll I forgot I had. I photographed early one morning just because I was tired of the dull flat light I`m used to. It`s impossible to guess what kind of light you get the next morning, so there was really just one option: Get out of bed at about six in the morning, grab a camera and get out.

This morning I was blessed with about one hour of magic light before everything changed.

I got so inspired by this blog, I had to do something really crazy!!!!!

But because I`m lazier than usual, I shot an UFO with a compact camera through an old Kodak Duaflex. All this craziness took about five minutes. And that includes twisting every button I know in Photoshop too. Someone hit me! I should be fully charged after a week in the sun, but I feel like I`m in a coma or something.

I`m considering getting a new pair of shoes before winter arrives. They`re only ten years old, but that`s probably how long these kind of boots last. I bought my first pair of army-boots when I was sixteen, had them for ten years, bought these, and now they`re more or less dead.

Army-boots are like jeans. The longer you wear them, the more comfortable they get.

I won`t need them next week, though. Jeanette and I are leaving for Egypt!

Miles is incredible when it comes to turning a digital photograph into black and white. His subjects always look great. He`s a briliant photographer, but what makes me crazy is knowing how good a portrait can look on screen... This is my latest attempt. I guess Miles has spent a few hours in front of his computer - but I have too, and I`m not happy. The more I adjust and tweak, the more freaky it gets, and in the end, everything I did has to be reset, and this is the result...

I`m not unhappy with it - I wouldn`t have posted it if I was, but I know it could have been better... AAAArrrrgggg!!!!!

(...I`m talking about computer-skills, here. Don`t want to offend the model...)

Everything went great last sunday. It rained for a few hours, so we had to cover the photographs with plastic, but we were prepared for something like that to happen - no problem. The print wasn`t usable, it was too grainy, and the colors looked way too cold, so I had to bring my old framed one. You can see it here. It`s almost dead center in the upper photo, black frame, greenish colors.

I noticed this cool man early on. He wore sandals, a hat and a Hawaii-shirt, and looked a little like Neil Young. It wasn`t him, but it was Dan Young, and I asked if I could photograph him. (After Jeanette promised to never call me cute again if I dared to ask.)

He said OK, and after I had told him where I wanted him to stand, he turned his back to me, and I photographed. Then we started to laugh, and I asked if I could take a couple of frames where he was facing me...

He was very friendly, walked over to my photograph of Anton and said it was funny, and then sat down with us in a tent where he looked trough some of my prints. To me, this was bigger than the event.

Got my print of Anton today. It is the one I`ll hang on the wall this sunday. I was very happy when I saw it at the store- both because it was done, and I didn`t have to worry about not having anything, and because they managed to place the photograph exactly where I wanted it on the paper. It`s 50x75 cm, and the photo itself is 40x40.

When I got home, I saw that the colors didn`t match. It`s supposed to be much warmer, but I`m unsure if it is a problem. It might just be my mind trying to screw things up. This is a great chance to show a photograph to a big crowd - everyone that shows up are into photography in one way or another...

I feel like the underdog in situations like these, but it doesn`t bother me.

Developed two rolls of Fuji Acros today. I`ve got four medium format rolls, and 6-8 rolls of t-max400, 135 film waiting...
My scanner is not very happy when I scan the bigger negatives. I use the flatbed, and make a contact sheet. In photoshop, I cut the frames, and work on them, one by one. The filesize is small, but it works a whole lot better than my old scanner.
The 135 films are inserted in a small frame, and they scan great.
I`ve been shooting a lot of film lately, and I still enjoy the feeling of having to wait a little before I can enjoy the result. It`s a little like - eh, a little like.... hmmm...I can`t think of anything that is comparable, but I think you know what I`m talking about.

I`m posting like a maniac- this is so much fun! Connected the printer today, and now I`m almost out of ink. Got to go shopping tomorrow. I also need to find a way to organize all my prints. The ones I make postcard-sized are supposed to be hung on the wall right in front of me, but I don`t want to frame them, so I guess I`ll try to use a big metal plate and magnets. Or maybe not.
I might use a stapler.

It`s good to be back - now we need to dig out the vacuum cleaner, and get things in shape.

I photographed my new friend with the 2.1 Mp Olympus Camedia C-2000Z. In order to get close enough, and to make the photograph a little more interesting, I shot through an old enlarger-lens.

Oh, and btw - it took about 15 minutes to make a new post. I`m used to spend 2-3 hours in front of the computer. Now I got even more time to photograph!

We`ve been "on the road" for fourteen days, and now we`re trying to get organized again. Jeanette`s going to work tomorrow, I`ve got one week left before the vacation is over.

There has been a while since the last post, but my beloved computer gave up. (The one I`ve been struggeling with since 2004 ;) I finally bought a NEW acer 17" laptop, and I just love it!!! The first thing I did was installing something twice because I didn`t know it could be done that fast...

Today I installed Photoshop, and it opens in seconds! It used to take about two hours to post a photograph, now it takes.... eh, I`ll come back to that one. I haven`t pressed "publish" yet.

(And yes - I`ve photographed a lot the last months.)

Preus museum is the photomuseum to me. Norways biggest collection of cameras, a huge library, and photographs, photographs, photographs! August 19th. is a special day: Magnum-photographer Jonas Bendiksen, Leif Preus, Chris Boot and Vicky Goldberg are coming to the museum to celebrate "Fotografiets dag". There will be a huge outdoor exhibition where 100 photographers will show their work. 24 of the photographers are invited, the rest were picked by a jury.

And what a jury!

I promised to show you the results from our photoshoot, but because we have had such nice weather, I decided to stay away from my computer. To stay away actually helps: I`ve been shooting a lot, I`ve developed films, I`ve even broken more old cameras because I`m so eager to make one myself...

This is a terrible scan, I know. The last three frames are a different file. Don`t ask why. I just placed the negatives on the flatbed and scanned them. I need to remove some dust too, but not now.

Our goal was to check out the difference between the scanned negatives and the 6mp files from our digital cameras. Well I didn`t know that my scanner can only do flatbed scans at 300 dpi, it`s written all over it: Scan 4800 dpi, but I can`t figure out how to do it with the negatives. With a photograph, yes, a negative, no.

(It`s a Canon MP 810 if anyone knows how to do it.)

But what we did find out was that we enjoyed working with the analog camera, with the film, the developing of the film, and the looks of the scan. The dust and fingerprints made the photographs look more real and alive than the true digital files.

It also slowed us down - we`re used to shoot 100 + frames an hour, and with film, everything went so slow, we had to sit down and laugh!

Photographed a few weeks ago in a shaded aeria against a piece of paper.

Went out with a friend late last night. He has a studio not to far from here, and we tried out different settings using his lights. We took a few shots at different settings, moved the lights back and forth, and checked out the results on a computer.

When we finally got the lights right, we used the Hasselblad to see the difference between our 6 megapixels frames and those from the scanned negatives. If I get the time, I`ll develop the rolls tonight. We worked seriously for hours, and I wasn`t in bed untill 3:45 this morning.

I feel like the luckiest guy.

This is a crop from a much bigger frame. This is what I saw, but as I headed towards them, my mind started telling me to stop. I shot 3-4 frames from a distance, moved a little closer, then chickened out. I feel sick when it comes to walking out of my comfort-zone and into others...
Thought I was a little tougher, but wasn`t.
Anyways - I love the way it turned out. My fav so far this year.
The location is Kaja`s school, and the kids who wrote it must have the same english-teacher as I did 20 years ago. The spelling is creative; "fuck the teachers".

Got 8-10 films to develop. A few medium-format films, that I have to develop one by one because of the size of my tank. I know it`s possible to squeeze two films into one reel, but it hasn`t been very successfull when I`ve done it. Overlapping frames and too much hassle. An easier solution is to deliver the rolls to the local photostore, but that`s just too easy.

Busy days, hopefully I`ll blow the dust off of my cameras soon. We bought an old house last summer, and most of our time and energy are being spent on making our new home our home.

Guess I`ll have a few hours wondering how to solve some isues. I do not wonder how people are going to navigate to the previous photo, though. Thank you, Mark for solving one of my biggest problems when it comes to this blog. The size of the pictures. They were too small. Like thumbnails.

One night, I found his blog, and was amazed by his photographs, and his simple design. Just what I wanted. When I saw "blogspot" in his adress, my heart jumped.

I sent him an E-mail, and he wrote a step to step tutorial, and even though I hate to change something that works, I trusted him, and started with messing up the template a few days ago. I honestly don`t know what happened, but I got text all over the photograph, the sidebar got messed up, and I asked him for help once more, and now it looks like ìt`s working.

Or is it ?

When I look at it on my computer, it`s still a mess, but when I look at it on a small lap-top I got, it looks good. There, the sidebar is below the photograph.

Please let me know how it looks like on your screen. And if anyone knows how to solve this, please let me know.

Still trying to figure out how to make this big homemade camera work. The distance between the glass and the paper has to be exact in order to be able to focus correctly. I have no groundglass, but I might work something out anyhow.
Once I start thinking about it, I want to get it done. I just have to collect all the bits and parts first.

I`m online again!!!
Had to reinstall the software that came with the router, and believe it or not: it`s worked without hassle for three days, now. New record!!!!

I haven`t photographed that much the last couple of days, but I`ve been thinking a lot. I want to build a camera. So I started out with destroying an old polaroid studio portait camera. It had four lenses, and worked just fine. Now it doesn`t. I`ll put an old Mamyia 80mm lens in front of it. I hope to find a way to use the back of an old 6x9 bellows camera that I broke some months ago too.
An other idea I got is to get an old wooden box, drill a hole and put an old 270mm/f.9 large format lens in front of it. I want to have a hinged back where I can place ordinary photographic paper (in total darkness), and take one exposure, bring the camera into my darkroom, and develop the paper instantly.
If it doesn`t work, I`ll make a huge pinhole camera out of it instead.
Sounds easy, doesn`t it ?

As you all know, I`m having a hard time with this computer. From time to time, I`ve been able to check out some of your blogs at work, but my internet connection is totally unstable, and I guess the fun is over when when I turn the machine on again tomorrow.
I got two more studio flashes the other day. Got them for free. One working, one not. I`ll take a closer look at the dead one tonight, and if I don`t post anything the next couple of days, one out of two things happened:
1. I forgot to pull out the plug.
2. My internet connection is having fun again.

Finally a film photograph! (There`s a joke hidden in that sentence too...)
Hmm - I got this wonderfull printer/filmscanner for christmas, and now I`ve started to scan some of the films I`ve developed the last months. First out was an pretty odd film. Agfa Scala is as far as I know the only b/w positive film out there. You`re supposed to send the exposed film by mail, and get it developed by a danish company, but since this is old expired film found in my refrigerator, I developed it as I develop Kodak T Max. Worked great!
The positives looks contrasty and crisp. I made a print out of this one, and it looks just great.

This is Thea`s model... They were the first (and only) so far to let me post their pictures. I can`t remember the models name, but I sure remember photographing her. She was very calm and easy to comunicate with, and if I ever get the chance, I`ll photograph her again.

Some of the students at Tone Lise Akademiet were having a show last wednesday. They did nails and makeup on fourteen models, and yours truly was the lucky photographer. Jeanette got her model ready while I set up the "studio".We used a small classroom as our base, with our homemade backdrop, two lights, and a computer. As soon as the models were ready, they came to us and got photographed. We managed to photograph seven of them before they had to enter the catwalk (and I had to bring the lights into the next room to shoot there too.)
After the show, we brought back the lights, and photographed the last seven. I have to say things got silk smooth. Jeanette downloaded the files while I gave the next model instructions. Each model got about 10 minutes in front of the lens. Then we checked the files, and if we had one or two great frames, the session was over, and we called for the next model.
They`ll get their cd`s tomorrow, and hopefully they`ll let me post some of the photographs here.

These black & white film photos that I have stored on my computer feels very real to me. It`s like when I post one of these, I expect all of you to see beyond what you actually see, and get your imagination going.
I photographed this only a few hours after I photographed dreams, and it was to become one of our craziest days in Tunisia with very rude sellers, a total lack of communication among the four of us, The discussion, and The agreement (that led to us feeling more united than ever before.) It`s called living.
I remember taking a cigarette just before we cleaned the air, and I watched him walking down the street, and the way he moved made me wonder if he felt the way I did too - but he chose to leave.

Same old story: My computer doesn`t work... It won`t connect to internet, and I`m out of ideas how to solve the problem. The wireless network tells me that I have connection, but it looks like there is some sort of IP adress confution going on here. In the meantime, I`m borrowing Jeanette`s pc.

Anyway: This is Nina and Glenn. They showed up last sunday, and we spent a few hours in our studio. This is a two light setup. One softbox in front of them, and one light from behind. No cropping, no photoshop. I`m working on a few black&white convertions, and I`ll post them later.

Here`s the final result. She chose a slightly different photograph with another background. (The background is in fact one of Jeanettes paintings.) After some heavy cropping, most of the background dissappeared, but since we used reflectors, the colors seems to have affected the photograph anyhow. Jeanette`s learning film and photo-makeup, and this weekend she had to make a fake magazine cover. She had to get a model (our daughter Linn), style her, put on makeup, get her photographed, and deliver the print by wednesday. Luckily, she involved the whole family, and we worked our asses off to make the best out of it.
We placed one studioflash with softbox in front of the model, slightly above, and held a reflector just below her waist to throw some light up again. You can see the two catchlights in her eyes.

I`m so sorry for the lack of updates, but believe it or not: I`ve had a new disk-crash, no internetconnection, and generally nothing but trouble. (When it comes to computers, that is.)
Alright - here we go again. This is true film, good old Kodak T-Max.
One of my fav b/w shooters, Markus Hartel, made life easier for those of us who shoots digital too. He made a Photoshop plug-in, that converts color photographs to black&white, but not only that: the plug-in lets you choose different asa-settings too, so the final print looks like it was shot on Tri-x 400 or 800 or 1600!
