There was a competition, and this local man won. He showed up at work to collect the price. I photographed him for the internal newspaper. He was in his 50s, and when we asked him how he felt about winning 10.000Nkr (about $1400), he looked at us and said: It`s OK. He looked bored, and I can`t decide if I think he was too nervous to smile, or if he just didn`t care.
I`m aware that 10.000 Nkr isn`t a billion, (I could buy a Nikon D70) It`s not a sum that can change someone's life (In Norway that is.) But I feel sad when people are so unaffected when other people try to make them happy.

That is a sad story. Hopefully he was just nervous, like you said, rather than so blase about winning the contest and the prize money.

Your photo is lovely.

Thank you :)

One time, the radio station I worked for gave away Five Thousand Dollars. Upon informing the winner, he simply said... "Great, Thank You." Took the check and walked away. Not even a smile. My favorite contest story though, was the same radio station, different contest. We were giving away an entire trip to the Olympic Games in 96 when they were held in Atlanta, Georgia. A lady won the tickets for 2, along with air fare, hotel rooms, and spending money. When we informed her (live on the air) telling her she won, her response was... "Olympics? Now what is that, a football game?" She honestly didn't know what the olympics were! :)

Holy crap!
